My mission is to build connection that reaches across cultural boundaries.
My passion is creating impactful experiences that can change the world.
I’m a creative business and thought leader with 15 years of experience at the intersection of art, community engagement, and technology — leading community activations, building strategic partnerships, and elevating influential voices to achieve global impact.
But it all started decades ago, when I was a little girl.
As the only child of a single mother who was an artist, art & community were foundational to my upbringing. My mom worked 3 jobs, but still found ways to bring art into my life, envisioning a brighter future. Through community, we created a network that was crucial for sharing resources and support that allowed us to thrive creatively despite financial hardships.
When my mom passed away, I turned to art & community to navigate the loss. I created my own artwork, connecting with other creatives online and in the real world, using the hashtag #ArtfullyAwear to share my personal fusion of art and expression. I learned that art & community are intersectional to every culture, industry, and interest group, and that people all over the world use their power to imagine and build the world they want to live in.
These early experiences inspired me to pursue a career at the intersection of art & community. I began in the art world, working with galleries and non-profits to build community with artists and collectors. Early on, social media was a tool that helped me achieve this. In 2013, I jumped at the opportunity to join Twitter, with the goal of achieving my vision for art & community on behalf of the platform.
In my first year at Twitter, I felt completely out of place. I didn’t speak the language (I thought OKR stood for “Okay, right?"), and I had a lot to learn about business and operations. I spent years supporting executives who taught me about the tech, social media, and advertising industries, all while encouraging my vision to support the growing art community on Twitter. When I had the opportunity to deliver my research on Twitter and the Arts in 2015, I was confident that this work had the power to change the world by building access, sharing inspiration, and moving important conversations forward.
This foundational work led me to design my own role at Twitter as Global Curator of Art, Culture, and Community. I built Twitter’s first community engagement program for artists and creatives around the world, curated over 30 exhibitions, engaged with tens of thousands of creatives, and reached millions on the platform and in the world. I helped to establish product and policy updates that made Twitter safer and more accessible for artists. And I found ways to increase revenue by connecting creatives to top Twitter advertisers for paid campaigns.
My experience at Twitter demonstrated firsthand the broad impact of art and culture across geographies and within communities. It gave me the fuel to continue pursuing art & community as both a passion and a career - and to build my own consulting company centered at the intersection of art, engagement, and technology. It also underscored the importance of continuing my personal art practice, which is both creatively fulfilling and affords me the opportunity to connect with art and culture on a deeper level: as a maker.
Today, Artfully Awear is more than a hashtag. It represents the mindset of approaching the world through the lens of creativity, being aware of the possibilities, and being tuned in to the art that surrounds you, wherever you are.
Artfully Awear LLC continues to build in the space of art & community, as I have done for the past 15 years. I partner with clients and companies across a broad range of industries to harness the power of art & community to reach new audiences, broadcast important messages, and create meaningful experiences.
To the little girl and her mom who used art & community to navigate the world, this is for you.
